Alabama Legislature holds Special Session

April 2007 | Alabama Living

As I write my column this month, the Alabama Legislature has been called into special session to discuss offering an economic package to the large steel mill that is considering locating in North Mobile County (near the Washington County line).  Planning has been ongoing for some months and a level of confidentiality has been maintained to protect the project.  Location of the mill has been narrowed between two sites: Louisiana and Alabama.  This is a very large project and will provide hundreds of jobs.

I have spoken to both our representatives in the state Legislature and they are working hard to help locate the mill here.  Rep. Thomas Jackson and Rep. Marc Keahey both at this point think we have an excellent chance to get the industry.  Since this article will not be published until the first of April, the decision may have already been made when you read this.  However, I want to thank all those involved in recruiting this much needed industry to our area.

Also, please support the upcoming Relay for Life events in your town:  Grove Hill, April 13; Thomasville, April 27; Jackson, May 4; and Washington County, May 11.

Thank you!
