Relay For Life

April 2007 | Alabama Living

For seven years Clarke-Washington EMC has participated in the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life events. CWEMC raises funds each year for four local Relay for Life events in Clarke and Washington counties.

The American Cancer Society’s (ACS) Relay for Life is the largest fundraising effort in the nation. And for good reason – every penny, nickel and dollar raised goes to cancer research and patient support.

By 2015, the American Cancer Society aims to prevent almost 5 million additional deaths from cancer, avoid 6 million new cancer diagnoses, and measurably improve the quality of life for those with the disease. Your support is bringing us closer to realizing these challenging goals.

For many people, Relay for Life means much more than selling items to raise much money, it is a time to remember those who have fought the battle of cancer and celebrate the survivors.

WHY RELAY?

EDUCATION – The ACS provides up-to-date cancer information through a phone service, as well as their Web site www.cancer.org.

ADVOCACY – Volunteers with the American Cancer Society work to ensure that responsible cancer policies are put in place at the local, state and federal levels.
