This has been a challenging year as everyone has felt the affects of the financial recession our country is facing. The national and state economy is having an affect on Clarke-Washington EMC.

Just like other local businesses our sales are down. Kilowatt hours are down as of July 31st by 2.5 percent. Our work load has also slowed down in 2009. We are using more of our time to perform maintenance work, as customer work orders have been down the first six months of this year compared to 2008.

The weather patterns for 2009 have also had an affect on our wholesale power bills-driving them up.

On a broader note, the economy has affected our entire area. Unemployment rates are high and our economy is struggling. We realize this and with our Board of Trustees’ and employee’s help we have held costs down. Hopefully the economy will start to recover. The sooner the better!

Investing in our communities is a vital part of our role as a cooperative. Clarke-Washington EMC partners with many charitable organizations that directly benefit the citizens of Southwest Alabama: Relay for Life, United Way, the Red Cross and others.

We are proud to be a continuous supporter of the families and businesses of all the communities we have been serving for 73 years. Thank you.
