Youth Tour

Four local high school juniors will represent Clarke-Washington EMC this year at Montgomery Your Tour on March 12-14.

Juniors from each high school in the Clarke-Washington EMC area were asked to submit an essay and the top two students from each school were invited to interview on Wednesday, Jan. 23

Addis Griffin of Jackson High School; Mary Alex McNider of Clarke Prep; Dylan Kimbrough of Jackson High School and Sophie Sanderson of Millry High School were chosen to attend Montgomery Youth Tour.

Along with 150 other high school juniors, the students will have the opportunity to learn about electric cooperatives, interact with elected representatives and tour the many historical stops in Montgomery.

Clarke-Washington EMC has been sending high school students from this area since the early 70s.

CWEMC’s Youth Tour Coordinator, Sarah Hansen, said, “Youth Tour provides young leaders in our area the opportunity to increase their understanding of the electric cooperative and become more familiar with the history of our state. This gives them a chance to get out of their comfort zone and meet other young leaders from across the state of Alabama.”

Addis Griffin and Mary Alex McNider will be CWEMC’s representatives in Washington D.C. this June.
