Plant Tours
As a member owner of PowerSouth system, Clarke-Washington EMC has tour privileges at PowerSouth electric generation facilities.
Generation Plant Tours at PowerSouth's Lowman Power Plant in Leroy, Alabama, McIntosh Power Plant in McIntosh, Alabama, and McWilliams Power Plant in Gannt, Alabama, are offered to students of various ages and other groups at certain times during the year. In addition, PowerSouth's corporate headquarters, located in Andalusia, Alabama, is available year-round for guided tours.
Elements of instruction for tours can, to an extent, be manipulated for various age groups. The basic concepts of electricity generation, environmental stewardship, workforce and community safety, and basic economic impacts of cooperatives in the rural areas of Alabama and Florida are discussed.
Tours may be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, plant operating conditions and/or any other extinuating circumstances.
For tour information contact the member services department at 1-800-323-9081. Groups are required to follow certain tour guidelines, and student tourists require an allotted number of chaperones.
