Touchstone Energy® Home

Over the years, building codes and the way builders and contractors work have changed.   Yesterday's "energy efficient" home is today's standard model. Of course it's good that modern homes boast higher levels of efficiency than they used to, but a true energy efficiency program like Touchstone Energy Home will take energy efficiency to a new level. That's why the Touchstone Energy Home standards for insulation and infiltration are higher than with some other programs.

Standards for the Touchstone Energy Home are customized for each part of the United States. Because of different weather conditions and construction practices, standards are personalized for each region. These standards apply to new and existing homes whose owners want them to be more energy efficient.

The Touchstone Energy Home features are:

• R-16 wall insulation
• R-38 ceiling insulation
• Attic ventilation
• R-19 floor insulation
• Double pane windows or single pane with storm windows
• Insulated exterior doors
• Infiltration control to help prevent air from leaking into the home
• Exhaust systems in bathrooms and kitchen
• An exterior house wrap
• Heating and cooling ducts located in conditioned space
• An energy-efficient electric water heater
• A high-efficiency electric heat pump

Potential savings will vary depending on climate and usage, but when building homes to the Touchstone Energy Home standards, the homeowner will enjoy better comfort, more energy efficiency, and lower heating and cooling bills.
