Do you know a high school junior who loves to make new friends and travel? If so, tell them about our Montgomery and Washington Youth Tours.
This once in a lifetime experience provides opportunities for students to learn about the history of Alabama and the United States. They also learn about the cooperative form of business and the legislative process, not to mention they make lifelong friends! The best thing of all is that all the trips are FREE!
The 2019 Montgomery Youth Tour will be held March 12-14, 2019. At this event, more than 155 students and chaperones will tour many sites around Montgomery and will participate in a variety of leadership programs.
The 2019 Washington Youth Tour is sponsored in conjunction with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Youth Tour that is held every June. This week long, annual event will bring more than 1,600 high school students across the nation to Washington, DC to tour various sites and meet members of the legislature. The Washington Youth Tour will be held June 14-20, 2019.
Goals of the program are to provide an opportunity for outstanding young people to:
- Increase their understanding of the value of rural electrification.
- Become more familiar with the historical and political environment of the nation’s Capitol through visits to monuments, government buildings and museums.
- Visit elected officials to increase their knowledge of how the federal government works.
The deadline for essay submissions is January 9, 2018. If you would like more information about this program, please contact Sarah Hansen, our youth tour coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or give him a call at 251-246-9081.
