“Cooperation Among Cooperatives” is one of the seven cooperative principles and the reason why cooperatives help each other in times of need. Clarke-Washington EMC sent 6 linemen to assist Beauregard Electric Cooperative in DeRidder, LA, located about 47 miles north of Lake Charles, to help restore power after Hurricane Laura. Beauregard EC suffered complete failure with all 43,000 of its meters out of service and approximately 5,000 poles down. Other crews from Alabama’s electric cooperatives also sent assistance to Beauregard EC, totaling about 100 linemen assisting in the restoration process.
